A Bridge is a custom device anchored to neighboring teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to serve as abutments to hold the prosthetic (replacement) tooth in place. Crowns and bridges are most commonly prepared from high quality materials such as semiprecious or precious metals, porcelain, or a fused combination of the two. Aesthetics, function, and tissue compatibility are considered when selecting the material most suitable for you.
Composites, if placed with exacting technique (rubber dam isolation and modern bonding agents), restore the tooth to its original strength in the most conservative fashion, and better than ever before. The composites are a very hard "plastic" that bonds (micromechanically fuse) to the tooth to hold the tooth together. Amalgams have multiple disadvantages. Amalgam is a metal which expands and contracts with hot, cold and biting. Over time, with every meal the teeth are being weakened. Depending on the size of the filling, the tooth becomes susceptible to fracturing. Amalgam also contains mercury which is a very toxic element. The literature is very unclear as to the amount of mercury that is released from amalgams and the long-term effects on the entire body.
A Smile Design is truly a work of art. The term Smile Design applies to the enhancement of a smile using a combination of methods. A client's eyes, lip line, coloring, gum tissue contouring, and face, are all considered when a new smile is designed for you. Our goal is to redesign your smile so that it fits you, is beautiful, strong, and natural looking. A smile that will make you smile for years to come!
The application of tooth colored filling material (composite) to the teeth has been a dental technique for many years. Recent advances have increased the strength, durability, and longevity of these restorations. Bonding material can be molded and shaped to achieve outstanding results including tooth lightening, closing spaces between teeth, making teeth appear straighter, and repairing chips and cracks. When polished it gives the appearance of natural tooth structure.
We now know that oral cancer claims one life every hour in the U.S., and the mortality rate has not changed significantly in over 40 years. This disease is of great concern to Dr. Boudreau because oral cancer is very treatable when discovered early.
Because early detection is the key to successful outcomes, this practice has incorporated ViziLite, an FDA-cleared medical technology for oral screening, to ensure that you receive the most comprehensive oral cancer screening possible. ViziLite is to oral screening what mammogram, PAP smear and the PSA test are to breast, cervical and prostrate screenings.
ViziLite is a simple, painless and non-invasive instrument that improves the doctor's ability to visualize, evaluate and monitor suspicious areas at their earliest stages. ViziLite helps the doctor see what he/she can't see with the unaided eye.
After a standard visual and physical oral cancer examination, ViziLite gives Dr. Boudreau the highest level of confidence that she is providing her patients with the most thorough oral cancer screening available. We offer this ehanced oral cancer examination to you annually. If you have any questions about ViziLite, please call our office.
We also utilize a new state-of-the-art tool known as a diagnodent. Diagnodent uses a laser to determine the exact amount and depth of bacteria in the tooth structure, allowing us to be as conservative as possible when planning restorative needs.
